Operating Logbook and Maintenance Record for Boilers – A Legal Obligation and a Tool for Safe Operation

The proper operation and maintenance of boilers and steam generators are fundamental factors for safety, performance, and compliance with European legislation. For this purpose, every company that owns or operates steam equipment is required to keep an Operating Logbook and a Maintenance Record, as stipulated by the European Directive PED 2014/68/EU.

The Operating Logbook records daily data such as pressures, temperatures, water level, instrument readings, and operational events. Through these records, performance monitoring is ensured, malfunctions can be detected at an early stage, and accidents can be prevented.

The Maintenance Record, on the other hand, includes all inspection, testing, and maintenance activities carried out by specialized personnel or certified technicians. Its proper upkeep is essential for certifying safe operation and for compliance with the safety requirements applicable to pressure equipment.

The correct and regular updating of these records is not merely a legal obligation—it is a valuable tool for prevention, traceability, and operational optimization, safeguarding both the equipment and the personnel.
